A Quick Road Trip

Had the truck in Anchorage for about two weeks this Fall, would have been longer but the schedule changed again and we decided to take the Grinch home for the season. Look at the top picture an you'll notice that the tree frost is only on one side of the road. Pretty cool I thought, and it was unseasonably warm to boot, as noted by my artistic capturing of the temp. Further down the road it got colder, and the sun did not bless this stretch as long so the frost crept back in. All in all a nice quick trip.

Boeing 777 freighter. Huge Airplane - 212' wingspan, 209' length, height at the top of the tail is 62'. Max takeoff weight of 766,800 pounds. Sheesh!

Top photo of Mt Illiamna, bottom of Mt Redoubt. Theses were the same day as the cruise by Mt Augustine. Such a nice day. To get all three volcanoes in one flight is truly noteworthy!

Mount Augustine

Some nice shots of Mt Augustine. On a clear day Augustine is visible enroute between Kenai and King Salmon, and located south-west of Mt Illiamna. We just happened to be cruising a little closer and my old camera was finally up to the task! We even got a nice steam plume to show for the effort.

Neat Clouds

Smooth flying here, but look below. That terrain is helping the air mass over it create what are called 'Roll' clouds. Named for their shape and how they form. Like 'Lenticular' clouds, these are in a category I call "visible turbulance". To be avoided, and occasionally photographed when the opportunity presents itself.
