Still on the whale haul flights, but the light was just right for more shadow pictures. Nuiqsut is about 51nm west of Deadhorse. The river banks visible are from the Nechelik river, a short leg off the longer and better known Colville river.
Hauled some whale to Nuiqsut. Good thing the weather was nice, because the whale smelled awful! Let me just say that over the course of four trips, eight pieces of peppermint gum was not enough.
It was nice to got to a new destination. Ivotuk is about 150 miles west-southwest of Deadhorse. We took them a half load of fuel, the other half went to Inigok, 50 miles north of here. No one is in camp anymore, they are just stocking up so the tanks are ready in the spring.
On a recent flight headed north we encountered this substance coating some of the peaks. All three of us shuddered a little, then nudged the heater control towards hot. Getting close to winter in these parts!
Went on trip to Dutch Harbor, alternately called Unalaska. A scenic place to be when the weather is nice. Takes a while to fly this route though. About three hours one way from Anchorage. Fairly common to see boats and barges as we get closer.
