Cold Bay Crash

Cold Bay, Alaska
Four people are unhurt after a Universal Airlines plane crash landed in Cold Bay on Sunday. The plane, a DC-6, landed without landing gear extended. Federal Aviation Administration officials say the plane was substantially damaged. The runway was closed for several hours after the crash. Fuel spilled was cleaned up. The DC-6 was in Cold Bay to pick up commercially caught salmon.
The National Transportation Safety Board says the pilot of a Universal Airlines flight that crash-landed in Cold Bay Sunday night failed to put the landing gear down.
According to NTSB investigator Clint Johnson, the Douglas DC-6 was inbound from Togiak with fish and cargo. A Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson says the runway was closed Sunday to remove the plane and clean up after a fuel spill.
